For better desalination, membranes have been demanded for high water/salt selectivity and high fouling resistance. Polymer membranes are commonly used, but there are still many challenges to be developed. PEO-based materials have been explored to modify the membrane surface to improve fouling resistance. For example, applying a coating layer of crosslinked PEGDA hydrogel on polysulfone membrane increases water flux and oil rejection with low membrane fouling degree. If the hydrogel have water/salt selectivity, it can be used effective coating material for reverse osmosis (RO) membrane. The incorporation of hydrophilic 2D nanoplates in hydrogels would lead to longer diffusion pathway for hydrated ions, so resulting in improved water/salt selectivity. Therefore, in this study, we demonstrate PEGDA/GO (graphene oxide) hydrogels. Here we will discuss the effect of GO concentration on crosslinking degrees of hydrogels and their water and salt transport properties. |
