In-situ aminated PAN nanofiber mat for environmental remediation application: removal of toxic organic dye |

Amine functionalized Polyacrylonitrile nanofibers have been used in different environmental remediation applications. Most often, the functionalization and formation of the nanofibers take two steps to achieve the aminated PAN nanofiber mat. In this study, we present a one-step functionalization of PAN using Ethylenediamine as an amine source. The PAN was functionalized in-situ while preparing the sol for electrospinning. The as-obtained nanofiber mat was characterized using FE-SEM, FT-IR, TGA, BET, water contact angle and Zeta potential measurements. These nanofiber mats find application in the removal of toxic organic dyes from aqueous solutions. The adsorption process was analyzed using adsorption kinetics and isotherm models. |
