Catalytic Selective Ring Opening for Improved Fuel |
초록 |
Unconventional oils such as oil sands, bitumen, and shale oil represent the largest new potential sources of oil. Much attention has been focused on the removal of polynuclear aromatics from diesel fuel due to the increasingly stringent environmental regulation, high percentage of aromatics not only generate emissions of undesired particles in exhaust gases but also decrease the cetane number (CN). To meet the increasingly tighter environmental regulation and fuel specifications, it is necessary to reduce the aromatic content and increase CN. Selective ring opening (SRO) is a novel approach that reduces the aromatic content by the cleavage of endocyclic C-C bond .The main goal of the SRO reaction is to keep the same carbon number as the original naphthenic compounds while converting them to more paraffinic compounds with expectedly higher CNs. Thus hydrogenation followed by SRO is a new process which could be useful to meet future diesel quality standards. |
