In this study, a novel photoswitchable and self-healing hydrogel was prepared by the formation of host–guest complexes between carboxymethyl cellulose containing azobenzene groups (CMC-Azo) and cyclodextrin (CD) dimers connected by disulfide bonds. The host-guest interaction of photoswitchable gel depends on the complexation of CD dimer for the trans-azobenzene (Vis at 450 nm) and cis-azobenzene (UV at 365 nm) on the CMC-Azo backbone by external lights. The obtained hydrogel gave properties self-healing and response to ultraviolet light and visible light, appeared in the form of a sol–gel phase transition and were analyzed with rheometer. Since the CMC and CD have biocompatibility and biodegradability, this photoswitchable and the self-healable hydrogel can be applied in various biotechnology applications. |
