This study was investigated to test the combustion properties of wood specimen for the constructional interiors, especially focusing on CO, which is the leading cause of fire deaths. The quantity of the CO generated was measured by using a cone calorimeter (ISO 5660-1) and used cypress wood. The external heat flux was maintained at 50 kW/m2. The average yield of carbon monoxide on Talc30 was 0.0355 kg/kg, 59% lower than that of cypress. The carbon monoxide concentration (ppm) of wood specimens coated with flame retardant was 98-120 ppm, and 19-34% lower than 148 ppm of cypress. This was observed to increase by 2.0-2.4 times compared with permissible exposure limits of the occupational safety and health administration (OSHA). Metal silicate mixtures have been shown to reduce carbon monoxide generation. |
