This study investigated the combustion properties of cypress specimen for the constructional interiors, especially focusing on fire risk properties in fire scenarios. Fire risk properties were measured by using a cone calorimeter (ISO 5660-1). The external heat flux was maintained at 50 kW/m2. Mica, apatite and zirconium silicate were dispersed with 20 wt% vs. 80 wt%. Smoke performance index-II (SPI-II) of the specimens were increased by 7 to 77 times, compared with uncoated specimen. The smoke risk due to smoke performance index-II increased in the order of Apatite < ZrSiO4 < Mica < cypress. The smoke growth index-II decreased from 85% to 99%, compared with uncoated wood. The smoke hazard due to smoke growth index-II increased in the order of ZrSiO4 < Mica < Apatite < cypress. A comprehensive assessment of smoke risk properties shows that flame retardants reduced smoke risk of wood. |
