제목 Rapid Swelling-Deswelling Response of pH and Temperature Sensitive Hydrogels
초록 Poly(ethylene glycol)(PEG) chains are introduced as graft chains maintaining freely mobile ends in thermo/pH responsive cross-linked N-isopropylacrylamide(NIPAAm) and sulfadimethoxine monomer(SDM) hydrogels by copolymerization of poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate(Mn 1,100). The rapid swelling-deswelling of the PEG graft-type gel is compared with the normal-type gel composed of NIPAAm and SDM. Higher equilibrium swellings at 10℃ and pH 9 are observed in graft-type gel in contrast to the normal-type gel. Rapid deswelling responses are observed for graft-type gel. This result is due to the formation of water release channels within the skin layer by the hydrophilic PEG graft chains. Finally, faster swelling-deswelling changes in response to thermo/pH change were investigated in the PEG-grafted gels.
