제목 | Syndiotactic polystyrene / organophilic clay nanocomposites prepared by melt intercalation: synthesis and materials properties. |
초록 | Syndiotactic polystyrene (sPS) has crystallinity and high melting point (about 270℃) due to its stereo-regularity. In this article we attempted to fabricate the nanocomposite of syndiotactic polystyrene/clay system by melt intercalation. However fabrication of nanocomposite by direct melt intercalation of sPS into organophilic clay has problems due to thermal instability of organic materials treated on inner layer surface of clay. To solve this problem we approached indirect way such as melt intercalation of amorphous styrenic polymer into organophilic clay followed by blending with sPS. We used poly(styrene-co-vinyloxazoline) as amorphous styrenic polymer and organophilic clay modified by cetyl pyridium. Using this method, we could fabricate exfoliated sPS/clay nanocomposites. The microstructure of fabricated sPS nanocompsotes was investigated by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. And the effects of dispersed silicates on the mechanical properties, thermal stability and non-isothermal crystallization behavior were studies. |
