In order to investigate the effect of silver (Ag) nanoparticles on the thermal and mechanical properties of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) nanofibers during thermal annealing, PVA nanofibers containing Ag nanoparticles were prepared by electrospinning of 12.5 wt% PVA solutions containing 2 wt% silver nitrate (AgNO3) in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). The average diameter of the PVA nanofibers was 145 nm and the average size of the Ag nanoparticles was 2.5 nm. With increasing annealing time, the average size of the Ag nanoparticles was increased and their number was decreased. The thermal and mechanical properties of the PVA nanofibers during thermal annealing at 110 oC were characterized using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), wide-angle X-ray scattering (WAXD), and Instron. |
