제목 Modification of brookite TiO2 nanorods with surface tetrahedral and octahedral cobalt(II) ion
초록 Photocatalytic water splitting has been studied intensively as one of the most practical solutions for solar energy storage because it is such an attractive chemical reaction for the conversion of light energy into chemical energy. Among all the materials being developed for photocatalytic applications, TiO2 is one of the most promising materials due to its good photostability and low cost. Modified brookite TiO2 nanorods with surface cobalt(II) ions were synthesized and studied with TEM, EDX, XRD, XAS, and XPS. The XPS and XAS data indicated that the local structure of Co(II)-TiO2 nanorod was shown as tetrahedral and octahedral Co(II) sites at TiO2 nanorod surface. The Co(II)-TiO2 nanorods showed greater activity than TiO2 nanorods in the degradation of 5,8-dihydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone dye under visible light irradiation. We believe that the Co(II)-TiO2 nanorods are promising catalysts for water splitting because Co(II) is exclusively located on the surface of TiO2 nanorods.
