Fabrication and Characterization of Anisotrocpically Oriented TiO2 Nanofiber Mats |

Anisotropically oriented titanium (TiO2) nanofibers with high crystallinity were fabricated by calcining the composite nanofibers consisted of poly(vinyl pyrrolidone), hydrothermally synthesized TiO2 crystalline nanowires (NW)s and TiO2 precursors. During the calcining process, TiO2 NWs acted like seeds of TiO2 crystals, in which TiO2 precursors were epitaxially crystallized on TiO2 crystalline NW surfaces. Morphology of anisotropically oriented TiO2 nanofibers were investigated by utilizing scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Structure and orientation of the epitaxially grown TiO2 crystalline nanofibers were also identified by the combined techniques of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and selected area electron diffraction (SAED). Furthermore, UV-Vis spectroscopic result indicated that the absorption band was red shifted due to the quantum size effect and improved crystallinity. |
