Hydrogel is a material consisting of a three-dimensional polymer network containing excess water. Double network (DN) hydrogels intrinsically possess extraordinary mechanical strength and toughness due to their unique contrasting network structures, strong interpenetrating network entanglement, and efficient energy dissipation. DN gels consist of two polymer networks with contrasting physical properties: a densely cross-linked strong polyelectrolyte (rigid and brittle skeleton) network in low concentrations and a sparsely cross-linked neutral polymer (soft and ductile substance) network in high concentrations. Recently, many studies related to tissue adhesives using hydrogels have been carried out. Conventional tissue adhesives have limitations in use, such as inflammation, toxicity, the non-biocompatibility in vivo. In this study, the properties and adhesion behaviors of biocompatible tissue adhesives were investigated by preparing the DN hydrogels made of natural polymers. |
