A novel approach for preparation of rutile TiO2 nanopowder in mild conditions |

This work reports the preparation of nanostructured polycrystalline TiO2 obtained by hydrolysis of TiCl4 in very mild conditions without calcinations. The samples were prepared as suspensions or colloidal dispersions by using TiCl4, H2O and n-butanol. The prepared samples were characterised by X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) and high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). The experimental results showed that the preparation of rod-like titania particles have been controlled by adjusting the TiCl4/H2O and H2O/n-butanol volume ratios. The optimized nanostructured titania particles were prepared by using the TiCl4/H2O and H2O/n-butanol volume ratios of 1:10 and 2.5:7.5. |
