Ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) is a PE having molecular weight over 106. UHMWPE is difficult to process in melt because of their high melt viscosity. So, we determined the effect of temperature and concentration on rheological properties of UHMWPE. The UHMWPE powder (MW : 7×106g/mol) was used in this experiment and the gels with concentrations of 2~10% in decalin were prepared. We measure the viscosity as a function of frequency and temperature using an Advanced Rheological Extension System (ARES). Cloud point increased with increasing gel content within the experimental range. Regardless of temperature and gel concentration, the viscosity function followed the power-law behavior and the gel viscosity significantly increased with concentration. The temperature dependence of the viscosity followed the Arrhenius equation, where the effect of temperature was most pronounced at high gel content. |
