Microcarriers can be used for carrier systems for cell transplants and then serve both as scaffold for cell growth and as a source for growth factors that promote tissue regeneration. Because cell-compatible materials are thought to be very important in many biomedical application, such as the development of prosthetic devices and tissue engineering, in the design of microcarriers for cell attachment and growth, surface properties are important considerations. In this study, we fabricate porous biodegradable poly(D,L-lactide-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) microcarrier by water-gas in oil in water double emulsion method using effervescent salts. The pore structure of microcarrier is based on a stable colloid-like mixture of micro-bubbles and micro-water-droplets in the first oil phase. These microcarriers have well inter-connected and homogeneous pores with diameters of 10-20 μm. These porous biodegradable microcarrier can be applied for injectable devices for tissue regeneration |
