White Light-Emitting Diodes using Electrospun Emitting Fiber Mats of Polymer/Quantum Dot Composites as Down Conversion Phosphor Layers |

Electrospinning (ES) is a very simple process by which polymer nanofibers can be produced. Quantum dots are representative 0-D nanostructured phosphor which has broad absorption and narrow emission spectrum, so that they can be easily embedded in polymer nanowires. We have successfully fabricated the poly(9-vinylcarbazole) (PVK) / quantum dot composite fiber mat because the electrospun nanofibers are easily twisted because of bending instability. We employed the composite fiber mat as a down-conversion phosphor layer of blue light-emitting diodes for white emission. By mixing complementary colors of a blue light-emitting diode and orange quantum dots, white light-emission was realized with a CIE coordinate of (0.367, 0.367). Time-correlated single photon counting (TCSPC) measurement was also performed to compare photoluminescence lifetime of the composite fiber mat with that of the film. |
