In this study, isolation of risk group 1 Bacillus spp. from soil and root samples was carried out to find safe and efficient 2,3-BDO producers. Several candidate strains were obtained via schematic isolation and screening process and 2,3-BDO producing performance was further validated by flask-level cultivation. Also, feasibility test on economic utilization of most popular carbon (glucose, xylose, fructose, sucrose) and organic nitrogen (yeast extract, CSL) sources was performed to develop industrial medium. Next, batch and fed-batch fermentations based on aeration rate and agitation speed control strategies, respectively, to optimize dissolved oxygen level for efficient production of 2,3-BDO were carried out.
