Carbon nanomaterials such as carbon nanotubes, activated carbons, carbon nanofibers and graphenes have been considered as suitable nanofillers for nanocomposites mainly because of their easy processibility, superior mechanical properties and so on. Especially, graphene oxides (GOs) have attracted significant interest for the use of polymer-based nanocomposites due to its excellent mechanical, chemical, electrical and thermal properties, and unique structure. However, in the case of polymer-based nanocomposites, it is important to disperse GOs in the non-polar polymer matrix such as polyethylene, polystyrene and polypropylene (PP). For example, the compatibility between GO and PP could be improved through modification of the GO surface by incorporating linear alkyl chains. In this study, we prepared alkylated-GO/PP nanocomposites through manipulation of the length of alkyl chains for GO, and their enhanced mechanical properties were investigated. |
