For the fabrication of multi-stimuli responsive optical thin films, we synthesize the dual photo-functionalized amphiphile. The molecule contains both diacetylene for topochemical polymerization and azobenzene for photochemical isomerization. It forms smectic A (SmA) LC phase at higher temperature and highly ordered crystalline phase at lower temperature. Because of Light-induced phase transformations of amphiphile molecules in SmA and KM phases, we can fabricate the multi-stimuli responsive optical devices. The light-modulating device was fabricated by applying the photo-reversible trans-cis isomerization of azobenzene group in the SmA phase. In the highly ordered crystalline phases, the film shows thermo-reversible color switching via the topochemical polymerization of diacetylene groups.
