Fucoidan, a sulfated polysaccharide, is generally derived from brown algael. It is well known that, fucoidan has anticoagulant and antithrombotic effects mediated by catalysis of thrombin inhibiter and prevention of P-selectin binding to Sialyl Lewis X. Especially, LMWF can efficiently prevent arterial thrombosis more than pristine fucoidan. In this work, the LMWF was prepared by oxidation of pristine fucoidan with hydrogen peroxide under ultrasound. The degradation reaction was monitored by solution viscosity and GPC. The molecular weight(Mw, Mn) was decreased with increasing the reaction time and hydrogen peroxide concentration. The depolymerized fucoidans were characterized by elemental analysis, X-ray diffraction, DSC, FT-IR and NMR. There were no significant change in functional groups of the fucoidan before and after the degradation. |
