Fabrication and In-vitro Osteocyte Proliferation Behavior of Channeled BCP Ceramic Body for Artificial Bone Application |
초록 |
Natural bone has a concentric lamellar microstructure with a central canal. The unit microstructure is called ‘Osteon’ and represents the building block of the human hard tissue. The central canal called ‘Harvetian cananl’ contains the blood and nervous channels. To imitate the bone formation in natural system with its inherent complex process, we fabricate a channeled porous body with bi-phasic calcium phosphate (BCP) as a bone scaffold. The channeled ceramic body was fabricated by multi-pass extrusion process. Graphite powder was used as a pore former. Both ceramic and graphite powders were mixed with polymer as an extrudable form prior to co-extrusion. The final porous body was obtained by binder burning out and sintering. For the viability of the scaffold for artificial hard tissue regeneration, we investigated the mechanical properties of the porous body in relation to the post operative situation. Detailed invitro investigation was carried out with both human osteoblast like MG63 cell and osteoclast cell. The dependence of cell proliferation behavior on the characteristic dimension of the channeled body like channel length was investigated. Trace amount of Si and Sr doping was introduced in the BCP crystal structure prior to the fabrication of porous body to enhance the cell proliferation behavior. Detailed microstructural and cellular proliferation was evaluated by SEM and optical micrograph. |
