Recently, high molecular weight (HMW) syndiotactic poly(vinyl alcohol) (s-PVA) has attracted much attention because of its potential for applications as fiber for replacement of carcinogenic asbestos, as films for polarization, food, and drug packaging, as gels for drug delivery system, and as barrier membranes. Moreover, hydrogels are a three-dimensional network of hydrophilic polymers held together by association bonds. These networks are able to remain a large quantity of water within their structure, maintaining its physical performance. In this study, we prepared ketoprofen-loaded s-PVA hydrogel using PVA having number-average degree of polymerization of 4000, syndiotactic diad contents of 57%, and degree of saponification of 99.9%. And, to investigate thermal and mechanical properties of prepared ketoprofen-loaded s-PVA hydrogel, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analyzer and FT-IR spectroscopy were used. Also, release behavior of ketoprofen in s-PVA hydrogels was investigated to confirm the possibility as a material for drug delivery system. |
