The present study investigate the potential of immobilised acid activated bentonite beads in the remediation of water contaminated with copper through batch adsorption experiment. The synthesised composite beads were characterised by Brunauer Emmett Teller (BET), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray spectroscopy and Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The ability of composite beads to copper from aqueous solution have been studied at different optimized conditions of pH, concentration, contact time, adsorbent dose and temperature. In order to determine the adsorption characteristics, Langmuir, Freundlich, isotherms were fitted to the adsorption data. The results suggested that La-modified bentonite beads could be suitable as a sorbent material for adsorption and removal of copper from polluted aqueous solutions. |
