Carbohydrate biomass is most abundant and widely distributed feedstock and many efforts were made to transform carbohydrate into useful chemicals. In particular, isosorbide from biomass attracts attention as a promising platform to replace petroleum-based bisphenol A. In this study, we synthesized photo-curable adhesive materials from isosorbide and compared their photo-curing properties with Bis-GMA, a photo-curable adhesive material widely used ranging from electronic manufacturing to dentistry. At first, highly viscous Bis-GMA was diluted with TEGDMA in various ratios and the ratios between Bis-GMA and TEGDMA having a similar viscosity to synthetic isosorbide-derived adhesives was determined using viscometer. And each of adhesive materials is verified their feasibility of photo-curable adhesive materials using photo-DSC, linear variable differential transformer (LVDT) transducer. In addition, lap shear strength was tested and VOC emissions will be also addressed. |
