Characterization of carbon membrane rendered from polyimide containing silica-alumina by using sol-gel method. |

Introduction of inorganic particles to polymer matrix affects to characteristics of polymer such as mechanical properties, crystallinity and permeability. In particular, inorganic particles in gas separation membrane play role as a permeate pathway or barrier. In this study, we introduced silica and alumina in polyimide film by using sol-gel method. To characterize role of silica and alumina in membrane, various chemical consists were used. After then, polyimide/ silica-alumina film was carbonized at 600 oC to fabricate carbon membrane. Characteristics of carbon membrane were analyzed by FE-SEM, XRD and BET. To confirm gas transport properties, gas permeation experiments were used by using time-lag method. From gas permeation test, gas permeability decreased with increasing silica-alumina content. |
