제목 Carbonization of Oil palm Empty Fruit Bunch (EFB) for biochar production
초록 Raw Empty Fruit Bunch (EFB) is not readily acceptable feedstock in existing power plant because of its characteristics. The objective of this research was to clarify some of the characteristics of EFB biochar produced via carbonization to explore its potential use as a solid fuel and also to investigate the influence of the ash content on the biochar yield percentage. Samples were carbonized in an electrical muffle furnace. Pretreatment done by water soaking (2 h). Biochar mass yield and volatile solids decreased by increasing carbonization temperature and residence times. The EFB with the lowest ash content produced the lowest biochar yield percentage with the highest fixed carbon percentage. Meanwhile, biochar heating value (HV) and fixed carbon content also increased. Carbonized EFB biochar could be considered a high quality of solid fuel based on its energy content
