Reaction oxygen species (ROS) play an important role in functions ranging from cell homeostasis to cell death as signaling molecules, and overproduction of ROS under an abnormal redox balance has been shown to be a main etiological cause of numerous diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease and diabetes mellitus. Therefore, ROS become emerging as an important diagnostic marker. In recent year, our group has tried to use ROS for cancer therapy and imaging by developing nanoparticles which is sensitive to endogenous ROS or can produce cytotoxic ROS by the external stimuli. The results have demonstrated that the ROS-responsive nanoparticles have promising potential for imaging and therapy of cancer. |
