Preparation of pre-reduced Fischer-Tropsch Co/Al2O3 catalyst by the addition of organic acid |

The influence of pre-reduction of Co-based catalysts by the addition of citric acid has been investigated in Fischer–Tropsch synthesis. Cobalt catalysts were prepared using impregnation method with the weight ratio of Co: organic acid: alumina = 15: 53.5: 100. Pre-reduction of catalysts was carried out during calcination under inert atmosphere (Ar) where Co3O4 was reduced through the decomposition of organic acid. The pre-reduction of the catalysts was confirmed by the weak peak intensities of Co3O4 and the presence of peaks of Co metal and CoO in the XRD patterns. The pre-reduced Co catalyst showed much higher CO conversion and C5+ selectivity, as compared to the catalysts without pre-reduction treatment. |
