Microbeads of metal ion-imprinted polymers (MIIPs) were prepared by combination of precipitation method and core-shell polymerization technique. The obtained microbeads had mono-, or narrow disperse diameters and smooth surfaces. Copper ion imprinted polymer (Cu-MIP) was successfully removed by acid solution with very short removing time (15 min) to gain equilibrium. The Cu(II) imprinted microbeads after removing were used in the adsorption-desorption process of metallic ions. Adsorption equilibrium was quickly achieved about 15 minutes with high absorbability. As a result, absorbability increased rapidly with decreasing initial concentration of metallic ions and increasing pH value. The competitive adsorption capacity of Cu2+ and other cations (Cd or Ni) was performed with the imprinted and the blank resins (prepared similarly but without copper). As a result, the imprinted polymers exhibited already much higher efficiency and selectivity than the corresponding blank polymers. |
