제목 | Periodic banded pattern of DNA and its template application |
초록 | Assembly of biomaterials is crucial for a fabrication of well-defined nanostructures as well as understanding of biological organization. Recently, several researchers have explored the liquid crystalline pattern formation of semi-flexible biopolymers such as DNA and actin filaments.[1,2] When the aqueous suspensions is concentrated by solvent evaporation, the collective biopolymers forms a lyotropic liquid crystal. At the final stage of drying, a hydrodynamic stress caused by receding a contact line of the solution induce buckling instability, which form banded pattern of semi-flexible polymers. In this study, we successfully fabricated a periodic banded pattern of DNA in a large area by a simple shearing method. When the DNA solution with columnar liquid crystal phase was mechanically sheared on a substrate, the DNA chains trace out zigzag configuration along the shearing direction. The banded pattern of the DNA used as a template to control the arrangement of liquid crystals, and the zigzag structure can provide applications to a bio-template for other biomaterials or functional nanoparticles and electrical nano-devices.
