제목 | Extraction of 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furfural from High Fructose Corn Syrup by Heterogeneous Catalyst in Continuous Reactor |
초록 | Furan-based compound 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furfural (HMF) and it derivatives are typical biomass-derived platform chemicals for replacing BTX-based aromatic compounds produced from petroleum. Generally, HMF obtained by dehydration reaction of fructose under acidic condition in high boiling aprotic polar solvent, such as DMSO. Recently, the conversion of high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) in low boiling solvent, such as 1,4-dioxane into HMF have been reported with good yield. In this study, a combination of DMSO/Dioxane mixture and heterogeneous acid catalyst were used for synthesis of HMF through a continuous reaction system, which reportedly produced a high yield of HMF. However, a downside to this method was the removal of DMSO. Therefore, monosolvent and disolvent extraction method was applied to remove DMSO and obtain HMF with high purity. The analysis results showed that the purity of the HMF was increased from 12 % to 90 %. |
