Mesoporous Co3O4 nanowire array for Polymer-free drug eluting stent |

Late thrombosis has remained to be a problem, even though drug-eluting stent (DES) has solved partially the drawback of restenosis. Late thrombosis is known to be caused by polymers coated for the control of drug release rate. Thus, our interest has been focused on developing polymer-free stents. In this study, we have produced a cobalt oxide (Co3O4) nanowire array on the surface of Co-Cr alloy, which have morphological feature for drug coating. Unlike existing methods, we prepared Co3O4 nanowire-arrayed Co-Cr surface, which is being investigated as one of the promising material for lithium-ion battery electrode. Co3O4 nanowires were produced by hydrothermal method. The resulting nanostructure was observed by SEM and the profiles of release rate were monitored after coating with drug using electrospray. Consequently, Co3O4 nanowire arrayed surface may be a promising strategy for developing less-inflammatory DES. |
