Self-assembled monomolecular layers of ferredoxin onto silicon and gold substrates were prepared using elution ability of a selected surfactant, CHAPS (3-[(3-cholamidopropyl) dimethylammonio]-1-propanesulfonate). The AFM image of self-assembled ferredoxin monolayer from the silicon substrate treated with CHAPS clearly shows that the size of ferredoxin culsters is about 5-10 nm, which is order of ferredoxin monomer, whereas the size of ferredoxin aggregates on the same substrate without CHAPS treatment was measured to be about 100-200 nm. The electric property of monomolecular layer of ferredoxin on the gold surface was confirmed to remain intact by the cyclic voltammetry measurements. Those results offer a new technique for the elimination of the nonspecific adsorption of proteins on inorganic surface, which has been a long-term problem in the fabrication of biomolecular electronic devices. |
