The Catalyst-Free Polymerization of 2-Ethynylpyridine Using Bulky Benzoyl Chlorides |

The conjugated polymers are expected to show such general properties as semiconductivity, energy transfer, geometrical isomerism, high gas permeability, optical nonlinearity, helix formation, magnetic properties, electro-optical properties, etc. Here, various ionic conjugated polymers were synthesized by the catalyst-free polymerization of 2-ethynylpyridine using various benzoyl chlorides in moderate yield. The reactive acetylenic triple bond of monomeric salt was susceptible to linear polymerization to give the corresponding ionic polymer. The polymer structure was characterized by various instrumental methods such as NMR, IR, and UV-visible spectroscopies. The electro-optical and electrochemical properties of the resulting polymers were measured and discussed. |
