Label-free Electrochemical Detection of Virus and Bacteria Particles Using Gap Device |

In this study, electrochemical analysis using nano/micro gap device has been applied for label-free detection of virus and bacteria particles. Vaccinia virus and Streptococcus Pneumoniae were employed as a target particles. The gap distance plays a most important role for clear recognition of electrochemical signal changes because interruption of electron transfer between facing electrodes can be occurred by target particles which were immobilized on the gap area. Gap distances were controlled by surface-catalyzed chemical deposition after conventional photo-lithography according to size of target biomolecules. Furthermore, amplified electrochemical signal by redox cycling of ferri/ferrocyanide as an electro-active probe leads to detect low concentration of each target with a significant signal changes. The result of electrochemical signal changes can be considered as a simple indicator for sensitive detection of biologically interfacing substances in the gap area. |
