제목 | Microstructure-dependent elastic modulus of ferroelectric P(VDF-TrFE) thin films |
초록 | Ferroelectric polymers, especially polyvinylidene fluoride and its copolymer with trifluoro ethylene (P(VDF-TrFE)), finds their wide applications, ranging from sensors/actuators, transducers, to electromechanical and pyroelectric devices. In recent years, another emerging application of those ferroelectric polymers is for non-volatile memory devices, even in mechanically flexible forms. Thin film of P(VDF-TrFE), typically sub-micrometer in thickness, is applied for the ferroelectric memory application. Also, it is usual practice to crystallize the film by thermal annealing to get best device performance. Here, we measured the mechanical modulus of P(VDF-TrFE) thin films by buckling method, which is simple, easy, and suitable for the mechanical characterization of materials in thin film form. The measured mechanical modulus of P(VDF-TrFE) film increased as with the degree of crystallization, reaching maximum modulus value at the annealing temperature of ~120℃, then decreased at higher anneal temperatures. This buckling-based mechanical modulus measurement will be an invaluable help to the design and future implementation of non-volatile memory devices on flexible substrate. |
