제목 Finite element method analysis on a cyclic thermal loading in the three-dimensional polycrystal
초록 This paper reports the results of the analysis on the thermal stress distribution in a polycrystalline microstructure under a cyclic thermal loading. First, a three-dimensional polycrystal is generated using the Monte Carlo Potts model in the context of normal grain growth. Then, three-dimensional conformal mesh elements on such a digital microstructure are created using both in-house codes and a commercial package. Finally, a finite element method (ABAQUS) is used on the resultant mesh elements to simulate the mechanical fields inside the polycrystal under a cyclic thermal loading. Interestingly, the curvature of the grain boundary is found to have the influence on the residual stress distribution on the near-grain-boundary regions in conjunction with the grain orientations and grain boundary misorientations.
