Core-shell structure of PMMA-gold was fabricated. In order to provide chelating groups for gold precursor ions, a small amount of acrylic acid was incorporated into the PMMA structure to yield poly(methyl methacrylate-co-acrylic acid), [P(MMA-co-AA)]. The P(MMA-co-AA) (4~5㎛) was synthesized by a dispersion polymerization. On the copolymer core was initially coated with PPy layer by a chemical oxidative polymerization in the presence of FeCl3. The gold layer was deposited by in-situ redox process between PPy and Au(III) in which PPy in neutral state was oxidized by Au(III) which is reduced to yield gold metal simultaneously. The deposited gold seed was further grown to gold film layer by electroless plating of HAuCl4. The core-shell structure was investigated by SEM, TEM, and EDX. |
