Graphite nanoplatelets (GNPs) are nanoparticles with a plate-like structure, which renders them ideal as fillers for reinforced polymer nanocomposites. GNPs form the high surface area and satisfy the high aspect rationeeded for high mechanical strength of composites. In addition, GNPs are one of the strongest materials per unit weight. Therefore, GNPs deserve the potential reinforcement for high strength materials due to layered morphology and light weight. In this study, GNPs were filled in poly(methyl methacrylate)(PMMA) matrix to improve mechanical properties. The effects of surface modification of GNPs on the mechanical properties of PMMA nanocomposites were also investigated. |
