The surface properties of biomaterials are important issues in cell culture. Especially, surface-adherent cells are affected by the physical and chemical properties of the surface material on their activities such as cell adhesion, migration, and proliferation. We fabricated microstructured organic or inorganic hybrid substrates and functional polymer thin films for cell study. Various cells including neuronal cells were cultured on these substrates and observed their activities. Depending on the surface structure and the wettability, the morphology, and growth of cells were changed. Interestingly, the cells grown for 3 days on certain surfaces presented some experienced behaviors after they were transferred to commercial regular culture plates. These results give us insights into understanding about cell culture and cell therapy. |
