Sirolimus has some drawbacks that are expansive cost, late stent thrombosis and non selective cytotoxicity for drug eluting stent. Phytoncide, antimicrobial allelochemic volatile organic compounds released from trees and plants, has many effects. In this study, we evaluated phytoncide as a drug to have ability to substituting sirolimus. Cell viability and anti-proliferatory effects of sirolimus and phytoncide were investigated in smooth muscle cell (SMC) causing in-stent restenosis by cell counting kit-8. Phytoncide and sirolimus demonstrated no significant difference of cytotoxicity in SMC. PLGA/phytoncide coating on stainless steel was prepared using electrospray coating technology. As the result, the surface was smooth for inhibiting platelet adhesion. In addition, the release profile of phytoncide coated on stainless steel was examined. Phytoncide would be a promising drug to replace existing drugs for DES. |
