High-Voltage Electrolyte Design for High-Energy Battery Cathode |

Li-rich layered xLi2MnO3·(1−x)Li(Mn,Ni,Co)O2 cathode materials have received a considerable attention because of their high capacity of over 250 mAhg−1, on the high-voltage operation above 4.6 V and low cost. Its performance upon high-voltage operation however is limited, due to anodic instability of conventional electrolyte and the cathode-electrolyte interfacial instability. Our approach to overcome this problem is to design new electrolyte components with high anodic stability above 4.6 V and to stabilize high-voltage interface of Li-rich layered oxide cathode. In this presentation, we report the high-voltage performance improvement of Li-rich layered oxide cathode using high-voltage additives, and the studies of interfacial reaction and surface film formation mechanisms. |
