There have been numerous developments taking place in the field of biorobotics. One of the emerging sectors in biorobotics, smart sensors, and smart devices field is that ‘How can make them more human-like?’. Animal bodies, including human, are mainly made of soft materials, and most of all they have elasticity. Hydrogels, which consist of polymer chains and water molecules, are used as a biomaterial because it is soft and has a lot of moisture. Also, It can be adjusted as desired by stimulation such as light, temperature, pH, ionic strength, electric field and so on. However, a general hydrogels have low mechanical strength. In this research, we designed a hydrogel actuation system that is both highly stretchable and responsive to low electrical stimuli. The gel fraction, equilibrium water content, and mechanical strength of stretchable hydrogel were investigated. In addition, their electro-mechanical response under an electric stimulus was investigated. |
