Natural melanin is an electrical conductive and biocompatible material. Also Natural melanin nano-particles (NMNPs), extracted from cuttlefish ink, are around 100-150nm diameter. In this research, we fabricated the NMNP layered films by layer-by-layer assembly technique (LBL) with poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) on a glass substrate. We optimized the LBL process of NMNPs by comparing different solvents and dipping times in UV-Vis absorbance and scanning electron microscope (SEM) images. From this analysis, NMNPs dispersed in deionized water (DIW) showed optimum surface coverage during LBL assemblies, suitable for wide ranges of applications, and the loading pattern by layers showed logarithmic increment in changing dipping times. This NMNP thin-films will be applied to tissue-engineering or biomedical materials for protecting cells or tissues from oxidative stress and UV light. |
