Fuel cell (FC) is an electrochemical cell that converts chemical energy into electric energy and can be operated at low temperature (~80oC) having high power density, rapid start-up, high efficiency and low costs. Presently platinum on activated carbon (Pt/C) catalyst in FC is show stopper because of its high cost, carbon monoxide poisoning and fuel crossover. Therefore, we report conjugated polyelectrolyte/graphene composites as a low cost and high performance metal-free electrocatalysts for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in FC. We found that poly(pyridinium salt)s (PPS) can play as dispersing agent for graphite into graphene by π-π interactions between PPS and graphitic layer. In addition, the polymers have electrochemical stability as well as help efficient intermolecular charge transfer due to quaternary nitrogen atoms. |
