제목 Morphology studies of PET/Clay Nanocomposites
초록 It is difficult to make PET(Polyethylene terephthalate)/clay nanocomposites because nanoclays including the organo-modified clays usually give rise to side effect on polymerization of PET, for example, discoloration, poor surface, and degradation. These might be the major effects that PET/clay nanocomposite can’t be commercialized until now. But, PET/clay nanocomposites can be improved their properties, especially their morphologies according to choice proper nanoclays or organic modifier on nanoclays.

We have been studied on PET nanocomposites for getting better morphologies using with several nanoclays. We used three types of nanoclays, which were pristine montmorillonite(MMT), organically modified MMT, and additional modified MMT by new method. Finally, we made PET/clay nanocomposites using these nanoclays by in-situ polymerization. The morphological characteristics of the PET/clay nanocomposites were investigated by optical microscope, SEM and AFM. The PET/clay nanocomposites using modified MMTs got better morphologies than the one made by pristine MMT.
