There has been much interest in nanostructured electrode materials for supercapacitor application due to their high energy density, excellent rate capability, and long cycle life. In this work, metal-decorated polypyrrole (PPy) nanocapsules were fabricated and integrated as electrode materials into supercapacitors. The nanocapsules were readily synthesized using a vesicle template in aqueous solution. By virtue of the structural advantages, the specific capacitance (326 F/g) of PPy nanocapsules was approximately twice as large as that of solid PPy nanospheres. Pseudocapacitive metal clusters were deposited on the inner and outer surfaces of the nanocapsules, which resulted in the enhanced specific capacitance. As a result, it is believed that the metal-decorated conducting polymer nanocapsules are promising for high-performance supercapacitor applications. |
