Light-Induced Open Circuit Voltage Increase in Ternary Polymer Solar Cells |

Polymer solar cells with bulk heterojunction (BHJ) nanolayers have been intensively studied because of their potential for low-cost flexible/lightweight solar modules. To date, the power conversion efficiency of polymer solar cells has reached 8-10% due to new conjugated polymers with low-band gaps and deep highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) energy levels. However, the stability of PSCs is still remained as one of the critical issues toward commercialization. Recently, we attempted to approach the stability issues by introducing ternary BHJ nanolayers. We found that the open circuit voltage (VOC) of ternary polymer solar cells was gradually increased under continuous illumination with a simulated solar light (one sun) but corresponding binary polymer solar cells did not show any VOC increase. This presentation will discuss optical properties and nanostructure/nanomorphology changes in the ternary BHJ nanolayers before and after illumination. |
