We demonstrate that Ag and QD nanoparticles synthesized in nonpolar solvent using hydrocarbon stabilizers are directly phase-transferred to thiol-functionalized imidazolium-type ionic liquids (TFI-IL) with low molecular weight (Mw) and short chain length. Therefore, we could prepare the Ag and QD nanoparticle fluids showing the notable electrical conductivity and optical energy transfer with liquid-like behavior. These phenomena are mainly caused by the decrease of interparticle distance between each nanoparticle stabilized by TFI-IL with low Mw and short chain length. In addition, if DI water is added in TFI-IL-QDs, the positively charged QD solution can be prepared due to the protonated imidazolium group of TFI-IL and easily controlled their concentration. Therefore, TFI-IL-QDs can be electrostatically assembled with anionic polyelectrolytes (PEs) such as poly(sodium, 4-styrene-sulfonate) (PSS) using layer-by-layer (LbL) assembly method. |
