Phosphorescent Dye Doped Light Emitting Diodes |

The tris-orthometalated Ir(III) complexes of phenyl pyridine (ppy) and phenyl pyridine derivatives have been given considerable attention in past few years due to their highly efficient phosphorescence in organic light emitting devices (OLEDs) at room temperature. In this presentation, we will discuss the effect of structural modification by methylation of phenyl pyridine ligand and the change of one phenyl pyridine ligand in [Ir(ppy)3] by cyanide and phosphine ligands to form [Ir(ppy)2PX3CN], (X = P(n-bu), P(ph) and P(Oph). Phosphine based Ir complexes showed blue emission in the range of 460~490 nm. Organic light emitting devices (OLEDs) are fabricated by doping the complexes, [Ir(mpp)3] and [Ir(ppy)2PX3CN] in the polymer and low molecular weight host molecules and the device performances were investigated. We will also report the optical, electrochemical and electroluminescence properties of two isomers, symmetrical and unsymetrical bis-orthometalted Ir(III) complexes of composition [Ir(mpp)2acac].
